Diese Bettenart kommt urspr\u00fcnglich aus Amerika und ist deshalb auch als Amerikanisches Bett oder auch Continentalbett bekannt. Boxspring stammt aus dem englischen Sprachgebrauch und l\u00e4sst sich mit &#8222;Federbox&#8220; \u00fcbersetzen, wobei mit Spring bzw. Feder die Sprungfeder aus Metall gemeint ist.<\/p>\n<p>An die Federkern-Box schlie\u00dft sich beim Boxspringbett ebenfalls die Matratze an. Bei &#8222;richtigen&#8220; amerikanischen Boxspringbetten ist diese in der Regel sehr hoch ausgef\u00fchrt und aus verschiedenen Schichten zusammengesetzt. Hierzulande sind allerdings die so genannten Boxspringbetten im skandinavischen Aufbau bzw. im europ\u00e4ischen Aufbau verbreiteter und beliebter.<\/p>\n<p>Das europ\u00e4ische Boxspringbett bietet einen dreiteiligen Aufbau aus unterfedernder Box, Matratze und einer darauf aufliegenden d\u00fcnneren Matratze, die man Topper oder auch Topp-Matratze nennt. Im Gegensatz zu Box und Matratze ist der Topper nicht mit einem Federkern ausgestattet, sondern mit einem Kern aus Komfortschaum, Kaltschaum. Sie bestehen aus einem Rahmen mit Auflage (Gitter oder Latten) f\u00fcr die Matratze &#8211; teilweise geh\u00f6rt auch die Matratze zum Lieferumfang. Wie der Name dieser Bettenart bereits nahelegt, l\u00e4sst sich das Bett in der Mitte zusammenklappen. Zus\u00e4tzlich sind meist im mittleren Bereich unten noch R\u00e4der angebracht, so dass sich das zusammengeklappte Bett einfach rollen l\u00e4sst. Das Klappbett hat dann ein \u00e4u\u00dferst kompaktes Format und l\u00e4sst sich gut transportieren und platzsparend aufbewahren. Man nennt diesen Bettentyp auch Raumsparbett.
